SOLD
Times are hard in the R household and I'm reluctantly offering up a lovely yellow touring bike that I bought last summer with a vague intention of moulding myself into an intrepid cycle tourist. I am hoping that I will still do that one day but for the time being those plans will have to be shelved. :'(
Basics: the bike is in Forest Hill (SE23) and I'm looking for £500 (plus any delivery costs).
More pictures: there's a set on Flickr here: Hewitt
but do please let me know if you want specialised shots of any particular parts of the bike.
The frame is in Reynolds 631. I bought it from an intrepid cycle tourist who bought it new from Hewitts in 2004. Interestingly it's fillet brazed rather than the lugged construction on the more recent Cheviots. Rather nice smooth lines are the result. More braze-ons that you might ever imagine necessary, including a dynamo bracket that now serves as a bracket for a fork mounted light, above the low-rider bosses.
Size/geometry (to nearest cm): Top tube is 55cm centre to centre, slightly sloping. Seat tube is 50cm, down tube is 64cm. Chainstays are 46cm and the stand-over height half way along the top tube is about 80cm.
Specs as follows:
Chainset: Deore triple, nicely scuffed crank arms!
Front mech: XT
Rear mech: Deore LX
Shifters: Alivio pod thingies
Brakes: Magura HS11 hydraulic rim brakes - loverly!!
Headset: cane creek aheadset
Stem: system x short and angled up - I can supply other shapes/sizes if need be.
Bar: vintage Japanese alloy flat bar from a top-end mid-1980s mountain bike, very slight backward sweep, cut down to a reasonable width and trimmed with ergonomic bar ends and grips.
Wheels: Deore M510 hubs on Mavic A319 rims, Vittoria randonneur on front and Schwalbe M+ on rear.
Seatpost: XT (or I could include a Suntour suspension post if you'd rather)
Saddle: B17 (but could offer an alternative of some sort if you're a brookesophobe or want to save a bit of money)
Pedals: M520
Mudguards: I've fitted black SKS guards
Please let me know if you have any questions (apart from the obvious one of why on earth am I selling this). It was advertised on another cycling forum last November but everyone there told me to keep it!
