I did, but I'll never know for sure because by staying left I encouraged them to flow through.

Aye, if you sense that they are impatient the best thing to do is to get out of the way. There is no point risking it when the vehicle behind is several orders of magnitude heavier than you are!

It certainly is. As you know I tend to ignore them, maybe that's why I didn't comment at first...

Even more importantly, the "inviting" nearside gap needs to be equated with extreme danger - regardless of whether there is a cycle lane present. This has always been the most compelling inducement to ride alongside large vehicles at junctions; cycle lanes exacerabate this problem and we need to dispel the notion that kerbside HGV/bus filtering at junctions is worthwhile for reasons of expediency and/or reaching an ASL reservoir.

Do you think more senior cyclists are at fault for 'teaching' filtering by example though? I see some equating 'legal to filter' with 'sensible to filter', yet habitual filtering may well be picked up by inexperienced cyclists or those not equipped to make a sensible judgement about the danger sometimes involved.

Sensible if you were voluntarily allowing faster moving traffic to pass safely, sad if it was because you felt they were likely to push through anyway - as the Audi following seemed to do!

If by senior you mean more experienced and traffic-savvy cyclists - I'd say that these are not the group that habitually filter to the front, sometimes they hang back. This more cautious behavior can also be an example to others. I have explained to cyclists on many occasions why I filter slowly or block nearside gaps next to HGVs.

Perhaps senior is the wrong word. I really meant those that might be seen by the less experienced (on the road, on this or other forums, wherever) as knowing how to behave, regardless of whether that perception was correct.

...which seems to me to be absolutely correct behaviour, I just wonder if that sort of example is obvious to others reading forum discussions or seeing cyclists on the road.
