First let me say that I'm a really old geezer who used to be a road racer back in the 1950's. Used to be that I'd build and maintain my own bikes with some degree of success. After many decades I've returned to cycling to keep fit. Bought a cheap MTB to get started (I know, its all my fault) and decided to change the pedals for Shimano SPD's after the first ride as my shoes kept sliding off the pedals. So I ordered some off ebay.
With my vast experience (ha ha) of bike engineering i knew that the LH pedal has a LH thread and the RH pedal a RH thread. So this afternoon I went to loosen the pedals prior to the arrival of my nice new Shimanos. Off camr the LH pedal no probs. Couldn't get the RH pedal to undo. Used Plus Gas and reaction block under the crank - no joy!. After some head scratching (and some verbal ecouragement) I thought, what if..., could it be..., maybe its a LH thread as well. Whacked the spanner the other way and the pedal came undone! Is this normal now? or have I got a pair of Shimano pedals coming through the post that I can only use 1 of? Any comments, including ribald ones, welcome.
