Hi everyone, my name is Michael and i came across this forum today while searching for information on road/audax bikes and thought you all seemed like a nice bunch so decided to sign up.

I've been into cycling for about 5 years now, mainly commuting and the odd trail ride on my much loved spesh hardrock (which i've beefed up myself and am quite proud of!). I'd like to get in to road riding and am looking at getting my first bike (hence the need for information). I have a budget of about £750, so any recommendations would be much appreciated! I'd like something that could cope with some light touring as well ideally, so am looking at the Ribble Audax or Ridgeback Platinum.

Cheers, Mike

I'd go with the Ridgeback option, triple butted frame et al. Plus if you get it from Bike zone etc. you'll get some service.
Touring would have to be fairly 'lightweight rather than kitchen sink.
If you can stretch the budget there are some nice Genesis options too with a Cro-moly frame which would likely give more comfort.

Bit out of my price range unfortunately the Geneses (Genesis', Genesis's??) The Equilibrium 20 looks awesome though.

I agree. I'm seriously contemplating just buying a frame.

Hi Mike
I'm not too far away down near Didcot, and I too am beefing up my Specialized Hardrock, doing most of the work myself. Next up, headset...
