Hello, though I should introduce myself and stop lurking. After a few years pootling about the canal on a hybrid with the odd charity ride/Pedal for Scotland thrown in I have just got myself a lovely shiney light as a feather road bike and a bundle of NCR cycle maps. Only trouble is I know zilch about bike mechanics and haven't quite got the hang of the brakes on it yet

Hi and :welcome: to the forum from Dunfermline! There is a healthy number of CC Ecossers from the Central Belt (who will be along shortly to say hello I'm sure) and we go on a number of rides, most recently Arran - there is a Perth ride organised for early August, have a look at the Informal Rides section for more information. Regards, Mark

Probably worth spending a couple of minutes sussing the brakes ^_^
Why, they're overated and only good if you actually want to stop ^_^

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Hlab, Corrieris, yes perfect cake stop and ice cream sundaes to die for.
Fubar, I'll have a look at the Perth ride, looks interesting if I can keep up. Doing the Round Strathaven 50 Cycle ride a few weeks later so am looking to get some miles in beforehand.
And the road bike braking issue ..... can't quite get enough leverage when braking unless go down onto the drops. Think it needs a bit of adjustment +/or grip strengthening. Dropped handlebars themselves are taking a bit of getting used to. Sure it just needs practice which I won't get if I keep taking the hybrid out instead ;-)
