Hills and x-trainer

I used to struggle when out of the saddle on hills, probably 30 seconds was all I could manage. I've since bought a x-trainer, and although cycling is my main form of exercise I use the trainer on average probably twice a week. Since using the trainer I can now manage minutes out of the saddle. I believe the trainer has really helped as it feels the same 'motion' when holding my hands on the fixed trainer bars, and pushing down hard with my legs on a hard resistance setting. Just thought I would share this as there seems to be a few threads with help needed on hill climbing!

I can ride for 10's of minutes out of the saddle and I've never used a cross trainer. My secret? Riding out of the saddle
