I had some fun with http://veloroutes.org/bikemaps/ mapping my route to work. I have 3 bastard hills at the end of my commute and was really interested in what the elevation profile was heading up them at miles 9 and 10. I think the image below speaks for itself....

I have found ridewithGPS better for hand mapping rides as it gives reasonably accurate figures for gradients.
I have a climb like that near me, about a mile long with average gradient of 5%, although the lower third has a maximum of about 16% with a relatively flat middle third followed by another 16% for the final third.
It's all good fun^_^

I find the ride with gps gradients round here very inaccurate the last climb home when scrolling over it shows a max of 7.5 % when in fact their are ramps of 20 and 25%
