Mrs W has booked the ferry to Rotterdam for a holiday in Europe. For the last 2 years we have been to Samoens in the Alps, we have been lots of times and love the place. However she is wondering if we should go some where else. We will be taking out 11 year old grandson and my bike. So lakes, hills, walks, things to see but no seaside please.

My previous experience of going there in summer tell me it’s too hot🥵

You didn't say when you are going ;) or any temperature requirements!
If you go to Innsbruck on a bike, be very careful around the tram lines, a friend of mine did herself a very nasty injury there!
It's not in France though and quite a hike through Europe!

How about the Alsace area, in particular Saint Maurice sur Moselle. Stayed there in 2023, very scenic walks in the mountains, a lovely smooth 90km cycle path around the valley or some relatively easy cycle climbs to various ski stations right on your doorstep. Plus the town/small city of Colmar a short drive away. it was my 1st visit to this part of France but certainly not the last.

It's more than a few years ago now (2003), but I was shocked at how good the tarmac roads were that get used by the Tour De France, not far from Carcassonne.
