Grrr and bloody grrr.

every time I open a new tab or browser (ie9) the webpage defaults to mp3mixx.com, instead of my previous homepage of bbc.co.uk/news

I have tried to change this default under: tools, internet options, but to no avail.

I have also run both Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, but these two cleaners found nowt.

Any tips gratefully received.

I don't use IE9 but have solved this for Firefox (etc).
Try running spybot S&D and see if it finds anything. You may also want to run CCleaner and see if you can remove whatever piece of junk software has manually changed this for you.

If you change tools->internet options, does the homepage stay bbc.co.uk/news until you restart IE or not even?
(and also what version of windows are you running?)

Thanks for the suggestions; I will give them a whirl presently.
No, everytime I open a new browser, the homepage I just set reverts to the pesky menace.

Also worth having a look at what is running on the computer. if you right click on your taskbar (thingy at bottom of screen where your icons live, pick a bit of space with no icons) and 'start task manager'; 'show processes from all users' and then see which of those is not a legit process (lots of googling here!); kill it (and probably then try and uninstall it or remove it from startup using ccleaner as well).

Dear Mr Savage,
ta for this. I've found one such programme called noevv.exe but neither ccleaner nor my windows control panel can find the programme. I was not able to download spybot.

When I try to simply delete the programme, the following excuse given by windows;
"The action cannot be completed because the file is open in Jazzy Oil Prig"

How may I slay this annoyance?

Got an infection there - restart your PC in safe mode (press F8 when it's starting up), that should allow you to download what you need. I also suggest Malwarebytes. Run these bits of software whilst the PC is still in safe mode.

EDIT: AND STOP USING IE! ^_^

I wouldn't leave it - scan it to death with the anti-malware programs, update any AV software you have (replace it with something decent like AVG or Avira if you have too). To leave something malicious on there is an open door and hearty handshake to THE EVILS OF THE INTERNET! ;)
