Hooray, back commuting

After leaving my last job by mutual consent I have today been offered a new job, 10.5 miles each way so just about perfect.

Money isn't great but it is only working mornings and so should fit perfectly for when we start fostering as Mrs Ranger will work afternoons when I am at work

I got made redundant January this year, took an agency job to keep the money coming in while I looked for work and it led to a full time job, OK its a strange shift and like yours the money isn't great, but its a job and they are rare at the moment, so well done Ranger for getting yourself back into work.

Great news Ranger- that's a nice distance for a commute too (it's about the same as mine) as it's enough to wake you up but not enough to be too tiring. Congrats on getting the job, it's good to hear especially as Mrs G and I are both in the public sector- she's losing her job in March and I'll probably not be far behind.

over 5 yrs ago i gave up the better money longer hours for the 1.5 mile away job less hours and money but it means i can commute by bike or foot when snowing heavily and i can come home for lunch , beats the salary and extra hours all day long

I was in the public sector as well, with an almost identical commute distance so happy enough. This is my first foray into the world of the private sector and will be working for an international company in the banking sector with huge levels of recruitment (Honestly, they have interviewed approx. 80 people in the last week and we were told there are jobs for everyone in the system as long as we meet their criteria)

There are jobs out there for ex-public sector, you just have to think hard about transferable skills (talking to people in my case) that are in short supply in other places and you should be OK and in my case it is not sales job, it is about making customers feel valued which is what I have always been about
