Has anyone got one and how do they compare with the previous incarnation, mostly have they increased the spread of the beam?

I have been using a XML T6 torch as my main beam but I'm struggling to find a mount that will keep it steady on the bars. Tried quite a few variations packed out with old inner tubes to try to stop slipping and vibration (this is the main concern as the light turns itself off over bigger bumps).

I've also got a Hope on the bars set to flash, its a quality piece of kit, the mount is bomb-proof and I love the versatility of using AA batteries and the self contained unit - I don't like wires.

My point is I'm happy to pay for another Hope if the beam spread is better on the 2013 version or as another option the Gemini Xera 850 lumen torch is similarly priced and looks a good alternative. I really do think you get what you pay for with lights.

There is no way it is like a T6. Got 2 hope 1s old versions, and a t6 with the wide angle lense blows them away, off road.

The new hope is a bit more powerful than the old ones, but still way off a t6. But the t6 is not a road light. The hopes work well as two on road in pitch black as the beams are tight.

As a reliable all year round light, I will stick with my hopes for road. Off road, I will mess with my magicshine and an on Order 3xT6 light.

Hope lights are fit and forget for reliability.

The new version gives you more light for less power and a battery indicator.

Why not just buy a clamp on mount to replace the o-ring?
I did a DIY job with an electron mount which i find does a sterling job although that particular mount is no longer available.You should be able to get another one to fit or buy one from ebay , i believe the ones for the MS would fit ?
All i did was unscrew the o ring mounting bracket bracket and use a compatible screw to attach the light head to the handlebar clamp

Ps two hope 1s on a trail are fine as you can change angles

It uses an XTE emitter and not a T6. the XTE can produce around 450 lumens at 5W. The T6 can produce 1200 lumens at 10w.​

I suspect the hope will still have a narrow field of view.​

That's good to know as I've got a couple of miles of unlit road on the commute and that was one of the things that has stopped me so far, just whether 2 Hopes would be up to the job.

I don't really need any more lights, as I now have dynamos on both road bikes and I have a hope1 as a back up, but the new one is really good and the low battery warning has addressed the only disadvantage of the Hope1

Happy with my old Hopes on road and off. I run two bikes in winter.

The hopes on level two are more than your need on lit roads, run more and they are very bright.

I run 2 Hopes on my commute on setting 2. They last about 8 hours on that level. Which for the output is pretty damn good.

That's the thing I like about them too, from readily available AAs I can't think of another light that gives the same output or run times. I know you can get car head light power for a lot less cash, but as a versitile self contained unit I can't fault the Hope.
