-2 deg C here at the mo. just about to get ready and set out on my first commute of 2010.
I'll be taking it nice and easy as one of the roads I ride is poorly gritted - will be my first ride with panniers on... so could be an interesting one!

-5.3 deg C here. I need to make up my mind about my son - we always cycle to school (on the roads) but they are back roads, but will they be better than walking on the pavements. Friend fell over 3 times and sprained her wrist yesterday within 200m of her home. Then I'm back at work from tomorrow and I don't really have much of a choice but to cycle/walk with bike.

First ride of the year today. Set off just after 5:30am, heavy frost and ice. Lowest temperature on bike computer was -7 deg C and my water bottle is still frozen

Some parts of the route have water running across all year round so today they were sheet ice and none of the route every sees a gritting lorry.

Picked up the Marathon Winter spiked tyres just before Christmas and they are fantastic! Still took it steady though, 59 minutes for 13 miles.

-4C at home. -6C on the way to work. I had an off last year in conditions not as bad as this, so I decided to leave the bike at home and caught the bus. Glad I did too - the ice was clearly visible on the roads I would have been cycling on. More than I've ever seen in recent years. Wouldn't like to risk injury / time off the bike when the weather improves / damage to the bike.

Yup. Set to get cold today. I hear less than -10 in "rural parts of the Glasgow area" It hit -5 here last night and I thought that was bad!

No problems down here. BBC were saying it would be about -2 but didn't feel that bad.

Took it easy, just in case and avoided some of the quieter back roads, but didn't notice any black ice. I will still take it easy on the way home

Successful ride in. Just got the trip home now.

Actually, I loved it this morning. Upgraded my clothing to include over-trousers and a buff, and was quite toasty when I got in, although the ears started off a bit cold. Lots of energy for the first half of the ride, but ran out of puff a bit in the middle. And its a good job that I managed to ride in today, as football will almost certainly be off this evening, and that is the only other exercise that I get during the week. Other than running up and down stairs.

I can't wait to get going again, haven't been on since the snow and ice started. I've been walking to work so I'm hoping that makes up for some of the exercise I'm missing. Trouble is I'm now getting blisters on my feet. Ah well. Let's hope it's warmer next week.

bugger although the roads have seemed clear here now for some time

I haven't ridden since a nightmare journey home on the Monday before crimbo

no way am i riding in ice or snow after that

I also rode that Monday from the City to E4 (via Holloway Road/Seven Sisters Road). took me 2 hours rather than the usual just under an hour. I rode it on a fixed. Legs were sore for days fterward.
