Yes it was a fun commute home today

It was really belting it down so i was going to get wet anyway , oh well its just life and beats the car but on top of that i had a driving head wind that made the rain close to horizontal , soaked through before the 1st mile.

Now i am home , showered ,dry and fed i think that was not so bad least it was not cold

After a year of commuting my attitude has changed i used to be a fair weather cyclist but the only time i shy off is if its really bad .

I have found the last few days difficult, only been communting by bike for 8 weeks, and today was the first day when I set off and it was raining, 34 miles each day.

Now I am always going on at work about how cricketers stop play for rain, and what a bunch of nancy boys they are !, ( I am the only Yorkshire man who hates cricket!) and with that in mind I set off.

I was glad to get to work but what I noticed was

lack of other cyclists, none of the usual people I pass the other way were to be seen, my legs never seemed to get warmed up, thus it took me 15 mins more than usual, but still glad I did it.

Like footballers then bunch of wimps fall over if some one so much as looks at them:tongue:[/QUOTE]

Ah, footballers - that's less to do with their being wimps than it is to do with the Premiership firms protecting their assets.
Still, that comment belongs in a completely different thread...
...not a huge footie fan, btw.

Rain won't stop me riding to work..... I have a specific bike for that..... now getting the 'best bike' out at weekends for nasty stuff, I don't usually, 'cos I don't need too.

You would feel horrible chickening out and taking car/bus/train to work....just do it.....

Well done though, you are new to this madness....

Usually I don't have a problem with the rain but this week has been aweful, I'll ride in against a head wind and by the time I leave for the day it has 180'd in my face with a bucket load of rain to boot.

Yesterday I had my first off as well, 16mph on a long banked bend and the bike just went from under me, queue road rash and several minutes putting my hoods back in the right place and I've lost ALOT of confidence in the bike/tyres.

I reckon I hit an oily patch but it still scared the poop out of me.

You're not the only one to not like cricket. What's with standing around for 5 days and then finding out it's a draw!!

Ont he commuting front, I cycle in all weathers. Used to get put off by the rain but now I'm not bothered by it. It's the wind that really gets me .

It shakes you up but the confidence soon returns. I hope the rash clears up soon

The only weather I hate is the wind - always in my face even if I turn 90 degrees! What's that all about? I even rode in the snow earlier in the year (only some of the way, the roads were very slippery and I had visions of falling off and being run over by following traffic, so I dismounted and pushed).

You know that is exactly what I am going thro'.
I am nearly 60 and when I came off in the wet a few weeks ago I thought apart from the ribs etc, no problem. Well there is, I now make excuses rather than take the bike - unknown.
I should know better but..................

Get back on the horse Billoudon!

Confidence returns as you get to know your routes and your bikes capabilities.

I hope your ribs feel better.
