Ok chaps gone spillt an entire bottle of wine on the rug the other day. Now it has gone completely dry. Used 1001 cleaner for carpets and all it seems to have done is turn the stain black and discoulered a large amount of the rug.
Any ideas before I have to fall on my sword or tell the landlord?

But iot says for old stains you might need to pour boiling water through the fabric... good luck. Put the sofa on top of it?

There's your mistake, IMO. Whenever I've spilt red wine, when we had carpet, we have used salt straight away. It works the same as with blood.

Not that I'd now about that of course.

Just tell the landlord or replace it.

I have never done it but apparently if you spill red wine you should pour white wine on it straight away. you could always buy a rug to cover it or a pot plant.

Mrs Noodley's sister spilt red wine on the carpet in a holiday cottage last year. I told them to pour some white wine on it (which does work BTW) before I went to watch something on the TV in the adjacent room. A short while later I went to get a glass of white wine only to find they had poured the entire bottle on the carpet!

I suppose I should have told them to pour 'a small amount'!

The 'stained area' ended up cleaner than the rest of the carpet....
