Sprockets designed for fixed, one speeds or internal hubs do have more meat on them, they are thicker, the teeth are deeper and they don't require shifting ramps (which are created by removal of material from the sprockets surfaces).
But it's the chain which causes sprocket wear and the worse the chain's condition the faster it destroys the sprocket. The longer a chain resists wear, the less it harms the sprocket, and single speed chains - because they are not obliged to move between sprockets and to run at funny angles - have a much easier life on single chain run bikes.
