hi all,

i've borrowed a fixed gear bike (not sure of the gearing till i count teeth or the bike owner knows). the bike is a few sizes too small for me and over geared.

i've only ridden fixed once on the velodrome at manchester.

my first out outing today was 15 miles over some very hilly rossendale hills (including crown point, for the locals) and the town was busy with traffic.

i managed approx 1mph over my normal average on that route on my brompton.

i got up to 33.8 mph before i pulled out of the spuds.

i just managed to keep going up a 19% (only a few hundred meters)

i managed to easily get up a 3 miles 15% (burnley road to clowbridge) and into a headwind.

i can feel my knees but they don't hurt.

so how did i do for my first time fixed?

you unclipped on a fixed at 34 mph? Ooooh ow that'd hurt if those pedals smacked you in the back of the legs.

Welcome to the fold, get yourself a bike that fits you and is geared to suit you and have some fun.

You were doing 34mph on a fixed wheel bike that didn't fit!!
You came unclipped at speed but didn't end up in the hedge.
You managed to beat my quickest ever speed using a gear ratio that still allowed you to climb a 20% gradient.

Pfffft.- I'm not at all jealous. Honestly

(Ok,I admit it, i'm highly jealous)

Fantastic ride there mate. When you're on a bike that fits and is geared to suit they'll be no stopping you.
