I am trying to get fitter and get into work faster, so each day I push myself as much as i can.

Every morning it's a race against the points on my route I know where I should be at based on the journey time, unless I see someone who may be riding faster than me in which point it becomes 'a ride to work- where's the hurry?'

I leave late to force myself to push it harder (or at least that's my excuse for not getting out of bed)

There are no other cyclists to race

Those who know what's your climbing on your commute?

Mine's pretty flat 146 ft of climbing on the way in and 258 ft on the way home (over 10 miles)

I've voted for scalping the elderly and infirm putting me in a good mood! I don't actively seek them out, but hey if they're on the roads it's fair game right?!
I am of course joking, a little bit.
I tend to bimble along and sometimes put a spurt on. I do like to see how fast I can go up the only bit of a hill I encounter - up to 12mph!
I don't really hurry though or I end up ridiculously early.

Difficult one to pin down.
Going slow just isn't in my nature, seeing another cyclist in the distance makes me go faster (it's a very rare sight when I'm going to work). But if I don't feel like it, I try to cruise(ish).
Remember when scalping, take a few good breaths before passing. This way you can call out a cheery "good morning" without sounding out of breath at all, so you appear TDF fit.

My commute is more focused towards distance than speed.
There are sections where I give it some "VIM" and some sections where I do not, there are days with no VIM.
It also depends on the bike, I have more VIM sections when riding my road bike than when using my main commuter( a tourer).

My journey is give or take 7.5 miles each way, with 254 ft climb on the way in and 144 on the way home. so pretty much the reverse of yours hill wise jarlrmai.

I saw a cyclist on the way into work and was trying to catch up to him, but he turned off before I could do so, bummer

In between here and there
Hardly ever go flat out, when I have done it makes Thursday/Friday a bit painful. By Friday I don't really fancy it. I tick along at a fair pace most days.
