How to contact Giant......installment 2

Have you actually tried the number I gave you?
It has a menu for all their different departments.

No.......for the reasons I stated. But now you point that out I am more inclined to give it a try.
Since my original post the Liverpool concept store have decied they will 'probably' be getting the in and are going to advise availability.
I have asked them specific questions re' the carbon quality and cycle weight etc. so it will be interesting to see what the reply is.

So I don't know if these observations will help at all, but... three separate experienced stockists advise you to steer clear of it and you still won't...

1) is this a case of you've set your mind on it and now need someone to pat you on the back and say "good choice"?

2) What is it about carbon that makes it so important to have?

3) Giant Store Liverpool's facebook page advertises the Fastroad so I have asked them to clarify whether or not they are stocking it.

1) I have made up my mind that I want to see it "in the flesh".......try it out.......and decide for myself. It is £500 cheaper than the other bike I'm interested in so it's worth exploring. BUT I am going to try them both out and get the one I THINK is the best for me.

2)It was a full carbon I had stolen. It was a dream to ride. At my age (67) I expect it to be my last 'real' bike so am happy to pay what I need to if it ticks all the boxes.

3)Liverpool has now told me they may get it in........they are going to advise me.
I would much rather see it (possibly buy it) local but that is proving difficult..............as explained.

I have Giant TCX1 and tbh I don't really need the drops. Because of where I live I can't do some routes as the gradients are beyond my capabilities with my current gearing - I can fiddle with it a bit but really I need a triple.

At some stage I will get a flat bar triple with discs - that would be my ideal bike.

The Comax's look good plus the higher end Spesh Sirrus's look good too - no triples though so maybe a LBS custome build?

One of the reasons I like Rose is that you can fiddle around with these sorts of things to your heart's content.

This is their reply to my latest email.

Just to let you know, I also passed your query on to Giant UK and this was their response:

CoMax is a mix of high spec carbon fibre sheets combined with fibre reinforced polymers. It’s a lot more than plastic!! Anything nylon based is effectively a plastic, even carbon fibre in it’s raw state is effectively a plastic. Mahogany and chip board are both technically wood but you wouldn’t compare the two.


It’s manufactured in our own factories using the same construction process and technique as all of our Advanced and Advanced Pro frames.


CoMax gives around a 10% improvement in vibration damping/compliance over the same aluminium frame and a weight saving of up to 200g. The sample bike that was here for the launch was heavy because it was a dummy frame, the finished article is a chunk lighter. There may have been some misrepresentation at the launch that the mystery dealer saw.

Again, just to help put your mind at rest.

We will be stocking the FastRoad but not the Comax version. Simply because we don’t sell a lot of flat bar road bikes, so we have to base our shop stock on our demand.

This means we will only order the Comax in to store if a customer puts a deposit down first.

It has got nothing to do with the bike no being a good one! It is just because we can’t fit every bike in the range in the shop.

So..........it has put my mind at rest on some issues but it even the CONCEPT STORE will not stock one to even look at...........that is still very worrying.

Surely a drop bar version would give you an idea of the quality of the flat bar one and the frame etc?

Call round the Giant stores across the country and then go on a road trip if wanting to see before buying. People generally don't spend money on expensive carbon flat bar bikes, be interesting to know how many carbon sirruses have sold (someone posted that they have one the other day), Whyte Montpelliers etc

Why is it worrying? They've already told you they stock what will sell and the rest is to order.

As @vickster has already intimated - higher end flatties are not in huge demand here in the UK. Different matter in eg Germany.

If you are really worrying then just move on and cast your thoughts elsewhere.

The only drop bar Comax I can find is the Anyroad Comax and that's not available here.

It's not a vote of confidence re the bike itself but just that they don't expect to sell many in the UK market.

They'll probably sell heaps of the things world-wide just not in the UK.
