I was looking at Howies yesterday as the cyclescheme mag I saw was offering 15% off.

£80 for a T shirt I thought was a bit steep though ;)

I'm peed off with Howies..have been for ages now.I need replacements for all the stuff I bought from them about 3 or 4 years ago, but they're just not making them.

But I don't think I'm alone. Even the guy who founded them seems to have had enough and left at Christmas.

I received that email too and thought whoa£160!
didnt know that badkitty did he leave or did he sell?

always found some of their gear v v expensive. we tried to stock them in our shop at one point and very sniffy about where they would sell and not great package for a retailer. some of their gear is shoddy too.

According to the Spring 2010 Catalogue, David Hieatt "left Howies at the end of 2009".
But wasn't so much a case of selling, since they pretty much already did that in 2006, in a deal with Timberland.
This is what Davis Hieatt said back then when it was announced:

"So what will Timberland mean for howies? Well, it will help us make better and lower impact products, to give a better service and to do more good as we go about our business. Those are our rainbows to chase. They always will be.

For us personally, we still keep a stake in the success of the business, we will maintain creative control of howies as we always have done, and the same management team will continue to run the company from good old Cardigan Bay. And, as you'd expect, the Earth Tax pledge is maintained. So really it's business as usual".
