I'm steadily working my way thru' the hints 'n tips on a SEO DIY list, and have got to put an html sitemap on-site. Curiously, thought there seems to be not shortage of free xml sitemap generators, html ones seem to be pretty thin on the ground.

Incorporating a sitemap on the site would involve a fair bit of faffing around, and TBH I'm not sure would be of any great benefit to visitors - the site isn't that big, and navigation is very clear and self-explanatory asis...in short, in truth, if I were to add an html sitemap, it would be purely for SEO reasons.

Is it worth bothering with? And if so, does anyone know of a freebie version they'd recommend? Thanks.

They used to be a waste of time - if you want some knowledgeable advice re SEO go to A1 Forums and ask there (there's a SEO section) they are friendly and helpful.

Most search engines will index the xml sitemap first, so they are better for SEO. The only really reason for having a html sitemap is for human readers, I have mine linked to my 404.shtml if anyone mistypes a url into their browser, but hardly ever gets hits.
