Hi

My 14 yr old son is around 5"2 and looking around (I was hoping for it to be a suprise and fit him first time), I see mostly huge bikes and very little choice! I'm wondering if anyone has had similar trouble finding bikes for their kids and what they went for in the end?

I'm considering this boardman junior bike, which is pretty cheap:

Or there's a pricier Specialized:

I'm wondering if there are any brands that offer good junior options (Islabikes look good but a bit pricey!).

Many thanks,

Steve

I would add your location to the post. The info and knowledge on this forum is immense, and you would probably get some good advice about where to go in your locality to find what you want.

As the parent of a 14 year old I'd be aware of sudden growth spurts, mine managed an inch over about 6 weeks, though he seems to have paused for a quick break.

Thanks for the advice! I'll add it to my profile for future, but I'm in Kent,

It'd be a major suprise to me if he liked it, whatever you chose, you wouldn't choose clothes for a 14 year old girl.^_^ I speak as a father of 2 sons who over time has been through giving "surprise" bikes. Please involve him in the choosing.
