Hybrid bike with road wheels.

I am getting confused, as i am new to cycling and bikes.i have a nice hybrid bike carrera subway, the tyre size is 26x1.5.
As noob as this sounds i don't know how to work out the wheel size as i was after some wheels and tyres like the ones that are on proper road bike, as i use my hybrid bike like a road bike. So i can get the right sizes to purchase some new ones that are more road like.

Sorry if this is a proper nooby question, just new to this sort of stuff

If i get some new wheels like race type ones, how will i know what tyre fits the wheel?

road type wheels wont fit as you have 26" mtb wheels - road wheels are 28" or 700cc

just get some slicks on them 26" wheels
