Looking at a gitane frame made out of hyperlite
Material any body any info on it is it superior or inferior to Columbus or 531

Going by the weight of a 49cm frame I've just found on french ebay (3415g) I'd guess it's the Gitane equivalent of Peugeot's Carbolite, i.e. standard steel. That would make it heavier than pretty much any Reynolds or Columbus frame.

It is indeed their run of the mill, hi-ten equivalent. Not necessarily a bad thing if used intelligently, and can make for a pleasant ride.

Having owned a frame made from Carbolite I'd liken it to pig iron rather than steel.
