I am currently trying to fit a pannier rack to the folding bike. It's not going well.

Some instructions would have been good. And the correct size fittings. Been at half an hour already (not including time to walk to shop to buy potentially correct size fittings).

I wish I'd just took it to a professional.

Half an hour? Lightweight!!
I'll raise you all of Friday afternoon and most of Saturday blown away by the stark realisation that a 600mm wide kitchen unit will not go into a 597mm gap, however big a hammer I use.
I have, however, invented a word for an irrational fear and loathing of chipboard (ikeaphobia), so the weekend's not been utterly wasted. Unlike me yesterday evening...

I'm not a natural fettler either - but the sense of satisfaction at the end can almost be worth it - that and hearing the bike mechanic laugh when I said how long it had taken to fit a cassette and deassemble a derailleur!

Done it! Bike now drying off in sun (I gave it a little bath in disgust at how filthy I got during the rack fitting procedure)

Quite proud actually. The bike wouldn't fold together afterwards, had to move the brake levers. This kind of job is usually left to the OH.

Oooh, you're hard core you are. It's beyond my imagination to think of doing something like that!

@Sara_H I can beat you in a "failed rack fitting" competition
2 x 1 hour sessions, job still not done perfectly, as in the end I used a strip of old inner tube to secure the thing to the seatpost ^_^

Mine seems to be on, the only thing is, the bolts dont go all the way through the seat stay eyelets so I can't get a nut onto it. Seems solid though.

Careful of that: one of mine detached itself on the road because of short screws.
Fixed it with some electrical tape I always carry - as one does  got correct bolts eventually.
