I chickened out!

I saw a very nice Felt F95 bike on eBay for £300 last Saturday and it was only 15 miles away from me. I contacted the owner and arranged to look at the bike on Sunday morning. Thought about how to tell my wife about it most of the night as that would be n+2 and by morning, chickened out to avoid a big argument. So I contacted the owner again and cancelled the visit. Why do women have such influence on a grown man? I consoled myself by thinking that I saved £300. Maybe next time.........?

I suppose it depends on your circumstances.
We don't have a lot of money (having only one income) but as long as the bills are paid, I don't mind what Mr SL buys if it makes him happy.
And vice versa. I'd be livid if he didn't discuss a large purchase with me though.

I have 3 bikes now; my original full suss MTB, my hardtail, bought last year, and my hybrid, also bought last year. I do feel a 4th is needed - a sports hybrid But the full suss will be going as I can't/don't ride technical anymore so it isn't used.

Usually I always get what I want. The last time was only last March when I bought a brand new car, so maybe I thought I was pushing it a bit.

What you wanna do is buy loads and loads of bike bits...and leave them all around the house. When the other half gets sick of stubbing their toe on a frame or tripping over a wheelset they'll be glad when they're tidied up into a new bike.

See my new bike thread. My wife set a limit of three bikes for me. I've stuck to it for the last 3 years.

Then a colleague sold me his Felt Dispatch for 150... The bike limit is now 4 and I appear to have got away with it...
