about a year ago my old cycle comp went t*ts up, and boy have i enjoyed not being pushed on by the bally thing........i particularly hated that little indicator that told if your ave speed was increasing or decreasing. anyways up that was on my trek mtb, i have now bought a road bike for the commute, had it about 8 mnths and enjoyed pottering to work happy in my lack of knowledge regarding trip times, ave speed etc........ but ultimately i couldnt stand not knowing, so yesterday bought a bells and whistles comp. its back to pushing hard to beat my last time, worrying that my ave speed is down, and now ive got cadence to worry about too.......oh well at least ill get fitter.......probably..?

I got one as a Xmas present (I'm new to cycling). Couldn't get the darn thing to work so now only use the watch as a sports watch.
I thought about buying another but when I thought about it I realised I didn't really want one.
I enjoy going where I want, when I want, at a pace I want to go at. If I need to know distance then I measure it on a map with a bendy wire tie (or several joined togehter) and then place that against a ruler to work out distance depending on scale of map.

I've enjoyed going out a lot since I got mine, it's only a cheap (wired) one, but I like knowing my speed and distance, it gives me something to aim for. It alleviates the boredom for me when I'm out on my own...

I can't stand being without a speedo. My road bike has one, my mountain bikes one stopped working then fell off somewhere. For the first semester of uni i had the mountain bike and would always put a lot of effort in to get to work as quickly as possible (and back home again) as it's only a short route. But I never knew my speed at any point which just wound me up.

Now I've got the road bike here and I can see if I'm getting fitter, etc. On a loop route I keep doing I've improved my average (which is the most boring thing ever, but it's making me happy ).

My Bike computer broke a few years back, and I havnt bothered to replace it. Thinking about it now, I'm sure I pushed myself harder when I had the bike computer running.

Im gunna have to go get a replacement now

not sure i'd ever want one, tbh. knowing my own (competitive) nature i suspect beating my own records would take priority over enjoying my riding.

Even though I knew I was slower over the winter I never thought of getting rid of the cycle computer.

I use my basic computer to help track my mileage. I've no idea what it thinks my average speed is.

Like MacB, mine only ever shows current speed and trip distance, occasionally I'll set it to have the clock showing instead (so I know whether I can pootle or ought to put some effort in to not be late)

The only over stat I regularly check is my top speed - as I have some fantastic down hill stretches and love seeing that I've got just a bit faster. Never had time to do more than glance at the speedo during the descents as you've gotta watch for the potholes/manhole covers.

I just use a pretty basic one and even then, I probably don't use all it's functions. I just want to know how far I have travelled and what speed I'm doing getting there.

i love having a cycle comp and was gutted when i lost my data after having my bike with comp stolen. When i first got the new comp i was racing myself contstantly pushing (or trying too) for the fasted time and highest av speed to and from work. now i just use it for monitoring distance and speed as well as total trip distance generally taking it easier.

i have made a concious decision not to have one simply because i will try and beat every time, speed i set each time i get on the bike im fast approaching 40 and just cant be bothered with it all now if a computer was invented that told me how much money i was saving i would go for that especially if it had a countdown facility to tell me when ive started saving more than ive spent
