I can't stand Word or the word processor in Open Office myself, horrible bloatware. Sadly there are few alternatives. I've settled on WordExpress, an old (1998) shareware application that is no longer developed further. Does the things most people need from a word processor, might be an option if you don't need an ability to read or write Word format files.

Yes and the etma system doesn't deal with windows vista either. Well it didn't the last time I looked. My commiserations.
