I compared a CAAD 8 and a Synapse (2011 model) - both with 105 [though not the chainset or brakes]. The local[ish] bike shop were invaluable as I was able to take both bikes out. There wasn't a huge amount of difference in comfort but on a poorly finished tarmac surface the Synapse was less buzzy so I ordered that. For me it was the right choice (yes I'm middle aged if that's somehow something to be frowned upon).

If you're after fitting mudguards for wet weather riding there's plenty of room on the Synapse.
