Spent an entertaining half hour on the phone this morning with AOL customer services due to the slowness of page loading on my computer. To cut a long story short, they are sending me out a new router and promised the earth as I have been with them for 8 years.

Two hours later, phone rings. AOL customer services again. This time they want to save me money! As a long standing customer I can now get AOL broadband for about £8 per month (half of what I pay just now) as long as I transfer my line rental from BT to AOL, saving another £3 per month.

Only snag is, I have to agree to an 18 month contract. WTF? Why do they think I would want to do that; at the very least until my connectivity problems have been sorted? Ah but Sir, you will also get an upgraded service with this deal.
Me - "So why hasn't my service been upgraded for the £16 I am paying just now? If AOL can't provide the service I am paying them for just now, then why would I transfer the responsibility for my telephone line to you? I have no intention of signing up to a new contract with AOL, so thank you for calling and goodbye".

Rant over..... For now ;).

hi there,we had hassle with aol internet they say we"ll send router do this do that still no good my wife spent hours on phone trying to get working then they make out you dont know whwt your doing on a computer .then they make out they dont understand you ,all big watste of time hassle then they make it even harder to leave as they wont give a code you needto leave there servic e .eventually my wif e sorted it and we went to sky which has b een good .the only problem with sky they send a router u can only use there one they supply ,but the wireless router signal is not strong enough so we have to use plug in things that send the signal though 13a.sockets ciruit to upstairs so my son can use x box on net and t.v. on net.
but apart from those hassles sky has been good compared to aol.

Update....

AOL sent me out a new router which was going to solve all my connectivity problems. It didn't. Phoned their customer services who told me I had to get it configured to work properly. Tried that, it still doesn't work properly.

After yet more losses of connection today, I phoned them, determined to get my MAC code and not to be talked out of it again. Now they try to tell me that my old BT line is made of copper and doesn't work with their new AOL technology. The magic cure this time is to sign up to an 18 month deal with them to take over my BT line. Have you ever heard such utter TOSH? I am no BT engineer but I fail to see how paying someone else for your line rental will alter the physical properties of the line

.

After 15 minutes listening to customer services sales pitch, he came out with "I'll tell you what I can do for you" one more time; at which point I had to butt in and say "What you can do for me is GIVE ME MY MAC CODE, because I am NOT signing up to ANYTHING with AOL!"

That seems to have worked; as long as they do as promised and get my MAC code to me within 5 working days. Then it will be GTF AOL

. Now to find another supplier.......
