I Need a new Bike!

Hi All,
I recently got into cycling. I have an old bike.. built in 1972... it's a hand-me-down..I started cycling a couple of years ago and now think its time to upgrade the equipment... but I don't know much about bikes. I went to a bike store and was introduced to a Caad8 and Caad10... pricesd from $1,400.00 - $1,650.00 respectively.. they both looked and felt great, but I went online and foud them both for about $800.00 - $1,000.00... But I also disclovered there was Caad8 -5, Caad8-6... and so on. I guess I am just lookiing for suggestuions and some guidance...any thoughts ??

I'm going to be a biased here and say that CAAD8 is a cracking bike, I've just bought one! AFAIK, the CAAD8-5 was superceded by the the CAAD8-6, think of the last number as like a version number.
I'm assuming that you're in the states going by the dollar signs so there's a few brands we have here that you might not have over there and vice versa, if you're looking at spending 4 figures then you won't go far wrong.
