I offered to carry someone's bag. Then someone offered to carry my palm tree

How about this. There i was today walking up a fairly hilly street when i caught up with an elderly bloke (about 75) who'd stopped to have a rest. He had a large shopping bag with him. He said he usually stops at that spot for a breather then stops a bit further up the road, before making the final 100 yards or so. I offered to carry his bag for him if he'd hold my dog's lead till we got to his home. He thanked me but declined my offer. Then when i got back home i decided to re-plant my palm tree( yes that palm tree!) in the box provided by the council for recycling glass. The box isn't needed now as we've been given full size wheelie bins for recycling and the council said they don't want the smaller boxes back. I put my palm tree in the box and added a large bag of compost, then soaked it to settle the compost. Not thinking about all the added weight i found that i just couldn't lift the tree and it's new box. I wanted to move it from outside my flat to the sunny bit across the garden area here. Low and behold a young chap about 18 to 20 saw me trying to drag the box and offered to carry it to where i wanted it to go. I said that we could carry it between us but he insisted on doing it himself. He took the plant over to where i wanted it then i thanked him. So there you are. I offered to carry someone's stuff, then about half an hour later someone offered to carry something for me. I think that's the first time i've been seen as maybe an oldie who needed a lift by someone younger. Was i embarrassed? Was i heck as like! I thought it was very decent of him!

Funny you should mention that as with this very warm weather we're having i was thinking of asking a nearby shop that does curtain alterations and stuff if they could make a Lawrence of Arabia style white robe for my dog,to keep the sun off him. I think it'd look pretty good!:becool:
