You know the moment: you think, "I wish I'd been recording just then" as some lovely bit of scenery opens up or you pull a sick move or some numpty in a beemer crashes into a bollard trying to overtake you.

I heard somewhere that the police have a camera system that records continuously in a loop. When you hit the "record" button, it starts recording AND saves the previous five minutes of the loop - instant hindsight.

Anyone got one?

Don't know, but my Skoda had a radio function that when the car was left it recorded the previous hours traffic reports on a rolling loop system as you describe. As soon as you got back in the car you could listen to the previous traffic reports latest first and going back an hour.

Quite useful when I was a regular "road-warrior" in and out of places up and down the country.

Your camera idea sounds ideal.

Alas no I couldnt afford a "real" car, even the ford escorts at £200,000 were out of my budget... to get a "really" nice car you had to spend around £300,000 blow that for a weekends fun... Especially with the maintenance costs £10,000 for a interval service... no thank you

I knew a guy who instead of using a courier had his engines delivered by helicopter, in fact about the time I quit quite a few of the drivers turned up at the start line in helicopters.

Still I made do with the little old skoda and collected a few pots for my efforts.

Actually, I'd prefer Skoda thank you very much. Skoda ownership is something only the clever few get to experience....
Audi's they're ten a penny and too aspirational IMO.

The entry fee alone for one days rallying on a cheap clubmans event is likely to come to double the price of that camera If you want to do a decent national event the entry fee alone is going to be 4x that.

Thats not including service crew, boarding, support van, tyres, fuel, etc etc The entry fee is non refundable. Rough guesstimate 33% of crews fail to finish any given forrest rally.

The cost to do something like the RAC on a "shoestring budget entry", is around £6000! Thats just entry fee, board fuel and tyres and support for one event in the smallest cheapest car you can get away with and whether you make it past the 1st stage or not is a very open question.

I knew a guy who was spending £50,000 a year on maintenance alone (probably 10 years ago now) for his vehicle not including entry fee's and event damage. He was running a 1978 ford escort!

Doesnt that camera start to look like good value for a hobby
