Tomorrow will be my first ever spiked tyre commute, don't know whether I am looking forward to it or not
Quick nip to the park on it later to test ride it :cold:

Well the tyres are on, they look the nuts, its about 4 - 5 inches here, and I cycle to work down the Guided Busway Maintenance track, which is 15 miles each way.
Did a test run without my clipless shoes, just my big boots and it was much better than I thought, slow going on the thick stuff, but once you going its better than I expected.
15 miles is going to take me a while so I will set off early, and enjoy the ride in.

Tyres grip really well, especially on the compacted snow, which if I was on the road bike would be certain death, but I bought an MTB for just this reason, and snow tyres way back in October, so to not give it a go would be a waste of time and money. By Wednesday I think it will all have gone, but enjoy it while it lasts I think!

Just been out and done 2 miles on the studdies.
Not sure if it is the right conditions really, it was just slushy/ice/snow, more water than ice
Squirmed about a bit at the back end, maybe need to drop the pressure a bit?
Had them at 60psi, is this too much?
If it doesn't freeze overnight then I'll just use the CX and stick to main roads.

Just popped out for a quick snowy ten miles on my studdies. Seemed fine at 40psi but you have to be prepared for the bike to move around a fair bit under you. The tyre ruts were the worst and it could take a second or two for the tyres to hook up and climb out of a rut. Mountain biking and being used to the bike moving around a lot on loose stuff is useful training. Had a couple of Butch Cassidy cycling moments with legs out sideways trying to balance the bike as it hit a big rut. Did ten miles in just under an hour.

I bedded mine in months ago, by going off-roading on them
No wonder I lost so many studs :giggle:

I'm out on my Snow Studs tonight. The roads are more wet than particularly snow covered. Have been on them for the whole of last week so well bedded in. Glad they're on but probably not quite the correct conditions for the tyres. Gez
