Many things make me feel old, and I'm only 36:

Falling asleep after 2 beers
Needing a rest day after decorating our small kitchen
Looking forward to a day off so I can catch up with the ironing
Hearing that a colleague was born in 1997 and thinking "that was only a few years ago"

I can't reach behind me and scratch my back or bend my leg enough to see the soles of my feet.
And I thought that I was inflexible!

I was actually scratching my back when I read that. I can stare at the soles of my feet and I reckon with a warm up I could probably get my chin down to the soles of my feet. I can get it onto the underside of my big toes.

I have always been hopeless bending forwards though. I can only reach down to halfway between knee and ankle.

I've had a splinter in the sole of my foot for a couple of weeks and I can't even see it properly, so I've given up and am going to the walk-in centre to get them to dig it out. Years ago I'd have done it myself easily.

One positive thing about being older is that your self-confidence grows and you don't give a damn what others think about you. I cycle with a small group of pals of similar age and I really enjoy the gentle joshing and banter that goes on.

I've been entitled to a bus-pass for a while now, though not yet got around to applying for one. I was offered a seat by a young lad on the tube a year or so back—felt quite embarrassed accepting, given that I'm still quite capable of riding 250 miles in well under 24hrs.

Last weekend a female friend had asked me to accompany her to one of her work colleagues birthday party. Apart from me (38 next month) and my friend (40) everyone else there was early twenties. There was food in a pub which was fine, then on to a night club with a very, very loud live rock band playing.

After about forty minutes my friend and I escaped to the smoking area to give our ears a rest and after a a quick discussion, we decided to leave the young ones to it and find a quiet bar where we could get a bit of peace and quiet and have a drink and a chat as we were too old for this sort of thing....I used to like like rock music....
