Purveyor of fine nonsense
I was driving along today (sorry to use the "d" word on a cycling forum! I know it's a dirty word!), approaching a section of the A27 where the outside lane merges into the left-hand lane (2 lanes into 1), with those curvy arrows telling you to pull left (or go straight into a lamp post at 40mph ... it's your choice!).

Anyway, it was a clear road, and there I was in the left hand lane, happily trundling along at 40, minding my own business, when suddenly a WMV comes belting up out of the blue, trying to break the World Land Speed Record, engine screaming.

Anyway, he tried to overtake me at the pinchpoint, realised he couldn't because of the large concrete bollard and lamp post (see previous reference to said lamp post!), slams on the brakes, whips in behind me, sits one inch from my rear bumper, making the "self-gratification artist" sign at me, flashing his lights, beeping, etc.

At the next possible opportunity, he floored it, came up along side me, shouted obscenities through the passenger window, tried to side-swipe me deliberately, screeched off in front of me, deliberately braked hard causing me to brake hard, then screeched off again and started cutting up cars left right and centre in the traffic ahead, getting beeped at by the cars ahead with him screaming abuse at them in return! He even cut up a learner driver who stalled (obviously scared to death by the idiot).

Add to that the fact that I did not react to him at all; no eye contact, nothing, I even slowed down when he started to overtake wildly, just to get him in front of me and away as quickly as possible, except that he wanted to be super-aggressive towards me with absolutely no provocation! I think he was probably just plain born nasty! Unfortunately I didn't get the registration, I was too busy trying to avoid being rammed off the road.

Anway, that's my little rant over with, just wanted to get that off my chest! Some people would have been intimidated by him, but he just left me feeling plain damn angry! I am proud that I didn't engage with him though.

Well...
He's obviously got issues.
likelihood is he is over stressed...
I would hazzard a guess at a poor diet, along with probably drinking and smoking excessively (just a guess, based on nothing)
He won't be around too long to bother people.

These sort of people are peculiar to construction and construction vehicles where I live. They tend to be the muscly oversized idiots who were bullies at school and now own their own building firms who drive big 4 x 4 shiny penis extensions. It happens too often to be coincidence or pigeonholing on my part.

Well done for your restraint. His time will come, whether it's meeting somebody bigger and harder than him, or an oak tree, his time will come.

Unfortunately driving somebody else's white van seems to give some people the idea they can drive like idiots.

I've known some people who were unquestionably born nice, so I guess it stands to reason there'll be some at the other end of the scale, human nature being what it is. All we can hope is that he exits the gene pool asap, leaving no trace behind.

Its not just aggressive driving that annoys me, it's dizzy driving as well:girl:

Last night, in the dark, I passed a car with no lights on and she was on her mobile

I bet that any cameras on that junction did though.

Well done for not reacting. I too used to have problems with fools like that, that is until I bought a portable flare gun...
