Some Canadians have French as a first language, but that looks more far-eastern.

Don't let them hear you say that in Quebec; and possibly other areas too! They are very proud of their French heritage.

I reserved a table today at the farm shop and restaurant where we're stopping for lunch on Saturday's ride. The line wasn't very good, they were busy and my hearing's not great. There's an outside chance that I may have booked a table for eight adults plus one high chair...
I have the horrors about phoning people in Quebec. I'm going a bit deaf and they tend to talk French fast and I'm not used to the accent. God knows what we're going to do with those 200 pigs.!
It's not so much the accent. I can understand French accents (and speak in a passable imitation of many of them) . But even the semi-creole DOM-TOM stuff is more comprehensible than Quebecois which seems, to me, to be a bizarre mish-mash of 17th century French with many literal translations/transliterations from USAnian English. The OP is much easier to understand ^_^
