@Accy cyclist, do you remember when you wanted to help badgers?

I self-identify as a badger, you can cut out the middleman and bypass the pen-pushers if you send the money directly to me, I'll make sure 100% of it goes towards my care and welfare.

(sorry @Accy cyclist, couldn't resist it.)

Well now I identify as a donkey and the same thing applies.

A relative of mine donates to at least 3 sanctuaries, it's done by recurring SMS message on their phone. Very strange, I have offered to check their bill to make sure it's all above board but they know best 🤷‍♂️

"It is a myth that most charitable donations go on administration costs. According to the UK Civil Society Almanac 2022, 86% of the sector’s expenditure related to activities directly linked to a charity’s purpose." From the ICAEW, that is the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Just saying that it is quite possible it is not really a big issue IRL and most charities have 10-30% of donations go to admin and other expenses. Big things to think about, usually the factors affecting this include size of the charity. Larger ones are more efficient and use lower percentages of donations on admin. If you are really worried then seek out the bigger charities perhaps. Alternatively look at those who do not have an advertising cost to pay for perhaps.

If I was to do what Accy is thinking of doing I would seek out my nearest donkey sanctuary or charity and help them with my donation. Those often are struggling more than the big international donley charities who use a lot to advertise for donations and other things that might not be directly helping donkeys. I once knew of someone who did take on the oddnrescue donkeys, not sure if they were a charity though they did take any offer of help with what they did. I think some of that came from feed supplier offering them hefty discounts.

It was oniy when the Donkey Sanctuary got outed as 'mega rich' that they expanded a little bit overseas.
Beach donkey retirees are certainly fewer. Donkeys also once worked pits.

All I know about donkeys was that the ones in the farm near to where I grew up (actually in a field next to the pig shed) and they were vicious biters. You never bothered about the farmer catching you in his field but if the donkeys found you there you did have problems. They were not friendly at all. I am not a fan of them.

I saw that two women I know well liked a video of a donkey charity on Facebook. One's a vegan Hindu, the other's a vegetarian pagan. I've messaged them asking if they financially support that charity. If they say they do, I'll take it that it's safe to donate to that charity.
