I was not going to post this but here goes.
A few weeks ago I popped out for an hours ride between the rain showers, anyway coming back into the village I only had 55 minutes up, many will know if you want an hour anything less will not do. So I extended the ride to include a loop of the village, so ending up at the bottom of my drive in the allotted time, but 20 seconds before I got there 2 cyclist had stopped over the road opposite my driveway, so before turning up said driveway I asked them if they were OK, no says one of them we have a puncture, no problem says I bring it up the drive into the garage and we can fix it in the dry. I must add that they had just stopped and had I been earlier I would have missed them completely as my drive is long and the house cannot be seen from the road.
Looking at the size of the tyre, a 700x35 I knew we had a spare in the drawer that size the my son had bought by mistake a year or so ago. so in it is popped, whilst of course they drink their tea and have a biccy, well they are cyclist.
These couple now consider me an angel, 1. for being in the right place at the right time, 2. for knowing how to change a tube, 3. for having a tube, 4 for having a wife that makes them a cup of tea.
As for me well I go back to the title of the post, I was lucky because I got too meet a really nice couple of people, along with the inner warmth you get from helping somebody in distress.
A week later I get a nice card as a thank you, believe me it is I that should be saying that. On top of that a few days ago I was in the local jewelers and the owner was telling me about the cyclist that popped in and told her about their angel.
I have for a long time carried 2 spare tubes both on the bike and in the car, purely on the off chance that somebody might need a hand.
I am not after a pat on the back, but I would like to reach out to those cyclists and say thank you for making my week.
