I was nearly involved in a SMIDSY crash with another cyclist

I was approaching a main road along a minor road where I join a shared use path on the right at the junction. To the right of the junction is a bridge with a separate footbridge which I use. On the left was a hill going into a town centre. The minor road goes uphill a little at the junction.

I was just about to turn right when I noticed a cyclist coming down the hill on the main road. He was turning down the minor road I was now crossing. I saw him realise I was crossing his path andd grab some brake. Fortunately I was just a little ahead of him and got out of his was. He then sped down the minor road at about 20mph when I had crossed his path at about 4mph.

I cannot see who was in the wrong here but he cut the junction a bit to avoid having to wait for cars to pass.

I understand the path on the left says 'Cyclists dismount', but everyone rarely does unless I actually see peds on it as it is narrow.

I've previously been involved in a SMIDEL (Sorry Mate I Didn't Even Look) with another cyclist. It was a young female student who entered a cycle lane without even so much as glancing left. Fortunately I didn't make contact, but it was very close!

I've also been involved in a SMIDEL with a mobility scooter, he joined the road without looking, probably thought there was no one coming as he couldn't hear any traffic. Fortunately I swerved just in time. I think I must have given him a fright as when I passed him a week or so later he'd had a wing mirror fitted!

Anyone with a view like that gets no sympathy from me.
