ICE Trike handling

Any ICE trike riders on here please? I would like to know what happens when you encounter a significant camber on the road do they tend to track down the camber towards the verge or do they stay pretty well neutral. Also any sufferers of back pain - have you found the recumbent riding position eases that ? Thanks in advance!

I ride one (Sprint X Tour with hardshell seat).

Never noticed what happens on road cambers. Just ride round without rally thinking, without issues.

Are you considering one or do you have issues with your's? Front wheels do need to have their tracking set but on mine this was done on initial build and again when the tracking arm bearings had worn out and needed replacing after significant mileage). Once set it stays set.

I don't suffer back pain so can't comment as to easing back pain. But (most?) ICE trikes have different seating options (hardshell and two "slung" variants) and I suspect different options might impact different causes of back pain in different ways.

Thanks - I am considering one and remembered that the few times I had ridden a delta config trike it was very susceptible to veering towards the verge on cambers, just wondered if the tadpole config had the same characteristics (I hope I am using the correct terminology!!!)

"Tadpole" is what I call mine.

Only surprise steering wise with mine was first few times round a sharp bend where the surface dressing had failed and bumpy and rear jumps out slightly and turns you slightly sharper into the bend. One bend near me happens all the time but after it's happened a couple of times (literally) you just don't notice any more and it just becomes steering.

I purchased mine blind in that I'd never ridden one before (Covid so trial rides were not practical) so discussed with dealers and others who cycled them, got to my chosen spec and ... if I had to buy again I'd buy the same. Only significant change I made was I purchased with rear derailleur (and triple at front). That worked well for a few years but touring with full camping load something just didn't feel right so after ages prevaricating I switched to double at front and Rohloff 14 at rear which I love except for ... waiting to see if ICE can sort the major repeating failure issue ... so pending (though at the moment dealing with ICE is like wading through treacle but give them time, life isn't about things going wrong it's about what happens sorting out when things go wrong).

The one I am interested in has a Rohloff, I am a great fan of Rohloff hubs and have had trouble free riding for ages, I hope yours get sorted out ASAP.

Ice trike handling is amazingly refined. Their front end geometry is extremely (i wish I'd thought of that) clever so that braking forces, bump forces and camber have minimal effect on the steering.

I’ve never noticed any “camber effect” on either of my ICE trikes (QNT and VTX)

I was mightily impressed when one of my front tyres blew out on a 40 mph descent (hit a stone that I didn’t see until too late). The trike didn’t so much as wobble, I was able to brake in a controlled fashion and steer into the verge before I wrecked the rim. I don’t plan on repeating the experience, but it’s reassuring to know.
