Just given the cable ties idea a go.
It sort of works, an improvement on having nothing anyway, especially when on off camber type stuff (dropped kerbs for driveways).
Used 2 ties with the locking bits under the sole, top through the bottom of the boot laces.
Golf shoes are the way to go, better spikes and dig in the hard frost easier, plus they look like shoes, you won't attract too many funny looks when you are walking round a shopping centre or going to the pub.
The lack of smileys makes me wonder if you are offering serious advice or having a legpull.
Even golf clubs ban the use of spiked shoes in the clubhouse, so I doubt you would get a friendly welcome anywhere with wooden or vinyl floors, and they would be dangerous to use on the highly polished floors of shopping centres.
There are plenty of snowshoes available to fit on ordinary footwear, these can easily be removed when going indoors.
