<pedant> actually it should be 'was', not 'were'.. </pedant>;)

defo the escape r2
looks cooler, and doesnt have the "stupid" suspension forks....- but then, i dont ride off road, i would need to be off road like 50% of time to get suspension (again), but thats just my opinion..

If it was my money I'd go for the escape because its got rigid forks and looks better IMO. To tell the truth I'd go for something with drops.

Definitely the Escape. The CRS looks like an old ladies bike and suspension isn't needed for road and gravel paths, it just adds weight and is one more thing to go wrong.

Unless you really really can't get along with drop bars I'd be tempted to get something more road oriented rather than an MTB with slicks. Even my road bike with 23c tyres can handle a bit of gravel path now and then. If you could stretch your budget by £50 I'd get this. That'll handle a bit of off-road, and will be much better suited for the road too.

If it were ('cos it's subjunctive) my money and I were (subj again - still an "if" clause) and I wanted it for
mainly commuting but may go on some gravelly paths with the other half at weekends
I'd probably want the one with the thinner tyres, as that would make the commute faster, which is the main use and I might even
wlecome [sic] the daily commute.

I would also have a trial ride on them all, including the Bowery, which, interestingly, is listed amongst the hybrid bikes on Winstanley's website. The Bowery would almost certainly be the quickest of the three and should certainly be able to handle said "gravelly paths" - depending on the nature of the gravel, whether it is raining, if there is an 'r' in the month ....;)

Id run with the escape because a)it looks a lot better and b)its got a ridgid front end, the forks on the crs will just be heavy and un responsive if you do go off road.
