That one's H foetidus, isn't it? I think it's a different species to the more ornamental ones Rich is boring us with, and one I prefer for some reason.

I think so, most were in my garden when I arrived, but I also had them in my previous garden, as my mum gave me some seedlings.

Where I grew up there is a wet area that contained wild Marsh Heleborines which I believe are quite uncommon.

Are they in some way related to these?

I remember telling a botanist and she being quite excited and arranging a visit to view

Marsh helleborines are orchids, so unrelated but special!

Great plants. Early colour other than yellow. Agree with Rich, but beware if you have children as they're poisonous.

I tried mashing mine up with porridge but the little sods still wouldn't eat them
