As per title.

I've made a right hash out of replacing a chain for the first time. Basically the crux of the issue now is how many Shimano replacement pins can you get away with, without completely compromising the strength on the chain? Basically I am about to install my fourth.

1st one was used to add on links that I accidently taken too many off.

2nd one was to actually connect the chain onto the bike.

3rd one which I just installed was to rectify a mistake attaching the chain to the bike, I put the chain the wrong the side of the little metal bit in-between the two jockey wheels making hell of a noise, so I needed to disconnect the chain again.

4th one is now needed to disconnect and reconnect the chain because I forgot to put it through the front dérailleur. Epic fail.

I just know i'm going to be paranoid whenever I go on my bike again as it is a brand new 105 chain which doesn't have the greatest reputation for longevity and now I am going to have four out of 107 links being replacements.

Will I be OK or do I need a new chain?

I put a 105 chain on a mates bike a while back something I've done a dozen times or more. This idiot forgot to put it under the jockey wheel retainer (or whatever its called  ). I had to open it up and rejoin it, it lasted a few weeks before it snapped, I told him he should have used a KMC chain

I would have dismantled the bolt at the bottom of the cage (2 on diagram) if I had wasted used as many pins as you have  .

This idiot put a chain on his step dads bike. He measured it correctly, fitted the magic link and all seemed good. I even managed to index the rear mech. I then used the from mech shifter and the chain got stuck between the outer ring and the bash-guard. Guess who forgot to run the chain through the front mech

As for the number - if fitted properly I don't think there is an issue. On recumbents you join several lengths of chain and using 4 is not uncommon in extremes such as a Long Wheelbase such as the Linear

By the way can I reccomend to you the Sheldon Brown chain cleaning system

That'll keep some of the obsessives busy for a while.....
