The whole article smacks of someone trying to get a heated debate going .. even the tone in which it's written is extremely confrontational.

Still, one voice of reason ..

Wrong nationalism. It's not cyclists vs pedestrians, it's people behaving selfishly (pedestrians stepping out in front of cyclists, cyclists barrelling through pelican crossing against red lights) vs the rest of us. Choose your sides by behaviour, not mode of transport.

I think it's probably a little bit higher. I was in a guy from works car and he hadn't reset his computer for over 200 hours and it was reading 13mph average, although he does some motorway driving as well. He wasn't amused when I told him the computer on my bike had a higher reading!!.

I think I had read the average was 11 mph (in rush hour anyway).

Either way, it's pretty bad. Even I can manage over 12mph on a bike!!
