Incident in Doncaster - still shaking

Here's a quick summary. I work at a place called DB Schenker opposite the Lakeside Retail Park (DN4 5PN). You approach the road on which the offices is based (Carolina Way) along a dual Carriage Way (White Rose Way) - which terminates in a roundabout. The approach to the roundabout is unusual in that the left hand lane can turn left only. You have to move into the right hand lane to go in any other direction.

This morning I did my usual approach (going about 20mph), got to within about 100m of the roundabout - checked over my right shoulder - saw a lorry about 300m back (in my opinion a safe distance), stuck my hand out to signal my intent and moved in the right hand lane. I always take the centre of the lane as I've had a few people try to squeeze up my RHS before.

There's a car in front of me at the roundabout so I stop behind it. When I set off I normally move into the outside lane of the roundabout as soon as I can after the left hand exit so that any traffic turning right (which is 95% of it) can get past on the right lane and thus minimise the disruption. This morning, I can't do that as the lorry that was behind me has already moved there and is forcing me into the middle of the roundabout. He then proceeds to turn right with his side bars getting closer and closer. I had to stop in the middle of the roundabout. To get in that position he must have undertaken me and been right up my backside as we'd both been stationary. Writing it down the incident doesn't seem bad - but it was. I'm still shaking now.

Fortunately I managed to note his registration number and have reported the incident to South Yorkshire police. There's a traffic monitoring camera on that particular roundabout too so I'm hoping that that, and the registration I've provided will be enough for the police to do something. I have an incident number and will be having an interview with an officer once they've had the chance to review the video footage.

Even if the driver had thought I'd done something wrong there can be no justification for trying to force a cyclist out of the way when in a lorry.

That sounds scary, really scary. I'd get myself a hot drink and stick a load of sugar in it (even if you wouldn't usually) if you can, for the shakes.

I go to the Lakeside shopping outlet often. It's a craply designed roadway around there, too many lane changes.

If the lorry had company logos on display then it may be worth contacting the company as well, it is possible that the lorry may have cameras fitted.

Nice images. The 1st one would have been around the point I would have looked, indicated and moved into the centre of the outside lane. Originally I used to move into the left tyre marked area - but as I said - people kept trying to squeeze up the right so I modified my position. In the 2nd photo I aim to be just to the right of the chevron area after the left hander. The lane gets wider at that point which allows vehicles to safely get past up the right hand side. It also puts me in position for the next exit (in the top right corner of your photo)That's the position I was trying to get into this morning - which must have meant the lorry was on the chevrons.

British plates? Just wondered as I think theres an international rail freight depot there and AFAIK foreign wagons are some of the worst vehicles on our roads.

Its not the friendliest RAB. I sometimes take the kids swimming at the dome, coming from the M18. From what I remember the road markings are pretty well worn. Not that thats in ANY way an excuse for poor driving. If informations unclear, you move forward with maximum care, attention and awareness.

Haven't had any serious issues here before. Yes, the odd impatient driver - but never anyone who's blatently put my life at risk like this morning.
