I'd go across the Pennines and see them

Make a day of it, go by train, get a mate / family member to drive. It might be a hassle but you are spending a grand plus presumably

Why is one a 52 frame and the other a 48? Have you shrunk since the first looksee?

One is sloping and t'other is curved

How big are you - a 44cm bar is pretty wide? Most men's bikes, even big ones, come with a 42cm - have you been measured? Guy at Giant Twickenham said Laurence Dallaglio needed a 46cm, but he's not exactly narrow of shoulder!

It will come down to preference but personally I'd go with R872 with the Campagnolo groupo and wheels. Just check your sizing! As Vickster said, 44 bars are wide, sounds wide for the frame sizes you mention?

I ride 54cm frames, just had my bars swapped to a 38cm after developing tendonitis in my thumb caused most likely by rolling wrists in when on the hoods. I am female but not exactly small at nearly 5'10 and on the chunky side!
