Barnet,
He was quite impressive, He says he wants to stay at Spurs, but with that performance on the European stage Spurs will have a bit of a dilemma when his contract gets near to it's end. Will they pay up, they do have a strict ish pay policy, or will they have to let him go to the highest bidder?

Apparently Inter are already trying to secure first dibs on him (and there are rumours of Barcelona too). If I was him, I'd get out of the Premiership. A guy with his skills would develop them into something very special in Italy or Spain.

That's alright then. Come on you Spurs!!

The problem for me is not the likelihood of him winning but the fact that the style of football in the Premiership will hamper him rather than help him. He'd become an awesome player at Barca or in Milan. At Spurs, he'll end up getting kicked around a lot, injured, have to 'toughen up' rather than develop his natural talents...there's a reason he looks good in European competition but has not yet looked so fantastic in the Premiership.

Good though he is at the moment, and I own up to being a lifelong Spurs supporter, the hyperbole is slightly over the top in my opinion. He's had a handful of good games.

As to going abroad, I would ssay that he's a quintessentially English Premiership player, as is Steven Gerrard in my opinion. He's no Lionel Messi and I think his skills would'nt be as suited to the studied type of football played in Spain and Italy.

p.s. I suppose hyperbole is by its very nature OTT!

I was thinking more Giggs, and Giggs would have prospered anywhere in Europe, in fact he might now be regarded as one of Europe's greatest ever players if he played abroad a bit too. He may be no Messi, but he could certainly be a better Bale by going to a league that values skill and talent above hard work and harder tackles.

I'm sure he could qualify to play for England... well, we can hope.

He is having a great season, but I agree, he is wasted at Spurs.

He's not as subtle as Giggs but he would do well anywhere. I worry that the eulogies are a little premature though.

If I was him I would get out of the Premiership too, not because of the style of play but if he fulfils his promise it will only be a matter of time before the tabloids get bored of him and seek to destroy what they have helped to build.

That is also true, whereas in Italy it would just be a matter of kiss'n'tell stories that won't do his reputation any harm...

A wind up obviously (must be a Gooner fan). They deservedly beat the European Champions on Tuesday.

A lot of football people (managers and players) put Bale's improvement down to Harry Redknapp. Spurs have got a decent squad. Defoe is back in a couple of weeks and Dawson shouldn't be long after that. They'll be in the top 4 again in the Premier League this season and should reach the knockout stages of the Champions League. Happy Days.
