I have an old JetBlack Cycling Z1 fluid hydrogel indoor trainer. I haven't used it for some time but when I did I used to just slot my old Scott CR1 bike in there. It just clamped the rear axle.

I sold my Scott CR1 some time ago and the two bikes I have now, a Scott Addict and a Merida Reacto both have the threaded thru axle type set up, which aren't compatible with my trainer.

Hopefully I won't need the trainer anyway, I'd much rather be out and about, weather permitting. But I would at least like to have the option of rigging one of my bikes up to the trainer should we have a prolonged spell of crap weather now that time of the year is approaching.

I believe there are some adapters that would fit my bikes in place of the current thru axles, and these would then allow me to clamp the bike in place. Are these adapters bike specific or universal. Haven't got a clue what I'm looking for.

You'll need something roughly like this, but no guarantee it's the right one or that it'll fit your trainer.

I used to have a similar trainer but I don't have a thru axle bike, just QR. It was easy to buy a replacement skewer that matched up with the trainer. I don't see why the same shouldn't apply to thru axles.

Yeah, I did a bit of digging and they're far from universal. Length, diameter and thread type all come into play. I'll get the right one eventually, somehow!
