We've got three layers of glass wool in our attic, well over knee deep. It was money well spent; keeps the house toasty while the attic is freezing.

Fill a rubble sack with mineral insulation and duck tape it to the loft hatch. Job done.

Mice?...pigeons are better... + ensure there's one in your cold water tank, so it decomposes nicely for when you need a survey.

I have a layer of dead mice on mine which seem to do the job nicely.

I was going to suggest nailing a sleeping cat to the loft hatch ............you might find a quite large one in the Tea thread if your quiet :secret:

Funny you should say that.... NT!!!

If you are about to get rid of an old header tank or even an old style hot water tank, these are often insulated with basically loft insulation in a bin bag style covering. You could use that. Otherwise Wikes do big slabs of polystyrene or some other yellow foam sheets. Either fix on to hatch or leave as a seperate oversized panel that sits over resting on insulantion.
